OUR LEARNING

Our early childhood philosophy

AT COOROY COMMUNITY KINDERGARTEN WE VALUE:-

CHILDHOOD. This is an unique time of life  to be cherished and enjoyed in its own right

'PLAY' and acknowledge that children are intrinsically curious and self-motivated. Play permeates all aspects of the kindergarten curriculum and through play children develop in all areas, i.e.: socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and morally.  Play is a natural activity for children through which they make meaning of the world around them.

A SELF SELECTIVE FREE INDOOR OUTDOOR PROGRAM Such programs allow children time, space and freedom to extend their play and learning possibilities.

NATURE PLAY It is so important children stay connected to the natural world. Early explorations of the environment can have many benefits and lead to better understanding of natural science that may build better environmental decision makers for the future.

EACH CHILD'S UNIQUE ABILITIES AND INTERESTS and acknowledge that children are active and competent learners who develop at their own rate and in their own way.

COMMUNICATION and encourage children to participate in a range of groups both as an individual and as a member of the group. We feel it is important that children develop skills in listening to, challenging, questioning and appreciating the ideas of others.

COLLABORATION AND CO-OPERATION WITH OTHERS. Children's learning is greatly enhanced through building and experiencing successful relationships with others.

CARING FOR OTHERS AND RESPECTING THEIR FEELINGS, NEEDS AND RIGHTS. We believe it is important for children to learn to resolve conflicts through negotiation, to be able to express and acknowledge feelings, to learn good sportsmanship and to feel safe and secure in a warm and caring environment.

INDEPENDENCE, INITIATIVE AND PERSEVERANCE. We encourage children to explore, experiment, take considered risks and to make choices so that they may become resilient, independent learners.

IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY and facilitate the expression of ideas and feelings through a variety of different media, i.e.: language, art, drama, music, movement and dance.

THE LEARNING PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN EDUCATORS, CHILDREN AND PARENTS. We seek to develop warm, trusting and respectful relationships and encourage open communication and participation in curriculum and centre decision making. We recognize parents as their child’s first and most influential teacher and seek to share knowledge and promote confident parenting.

THE DIVERSITY AND SIMILARITIES OF FAMILY BACKGROUNDS, BELIEFS AND CULTURES. We recognize the influence they have on children's lives and acknowledge the wonderful learning that takes place when diversity is shared.

RESPECT OF THE ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CULTURE. We acknowledge the strong connection to place, language, history and community and seek to strengthen our connection to Australia’s first peoples.

RESPECT AND RESPOSIBILITY TOWARDS THE BUILT AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. We believe it is important for children to understand how their actions affect the  environment for they are the future caretakers of our world.

EDUCATION IS A LIFELONG PROCESS, SO HELPING YOUNG CHILDREN TO DEVELOP POSITIVE FEELINGS AND ATTITUDES ABOUT THEMSELVES, OTHERS, THE WORLD AROUND THEM AND TOWARDS LEARNING IS REALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT WE CAN HOPE TO ACHIEVE.
